Does Once Upon A Child Give Good Money For Clothes

For this puzzle, I'm going to compare experiences attempting to sell the same lot of clothes in four different places.

Facebook Online Garage Auction

Some friends told me they've been successful selling stuff through online garage sales on Facebook.  Let me tell you something: I have figured out the personality of people who buy from online garage sales and I don't desire to be there.  It's a buyer's market, to say the least.  These people have nothing but time, so they don't mind wasting mine.  I could share many, many examples of this and they would probably make you express mirth.  I'll merely say this: These people don't mind driving across the entire DFW metroplex to look at a bag of clothes y'all left on your porch and determine the sizes expect likewise large.  Even a handbag of mixed-brand, meticulously cared for items that are the exact size they requested and of which they saw detailed photos in advance.  Fifty-fifty if said bag of 26 items was only $20 and included a fancy Christmas dress that probably toll $20 on its own. She came to my porch, looked through the handbag, left, and then texted me to say, "Thanks anyway, but the sizes of those brands wait too large."  Facebook garage sales may accept high earning opportunity if you're willing to put in the piece of work of constantly bumping your posts, responding to messages from low-ballers, and beingness let downwardly by people who change their minds.  If you put a price on your time, however, I think they offer the worst return on your investment.

Once Upon A Child

This was my very first experience with a used clothing store.  The clerk told me to leave my bin of wearing apparel there and they would sort and price the ones they would purchase from me.  She said they would tell me exactly what they would pay for each detail and it would be my decision whether to accept their offer.  It was ten:30 a.one thousand. and she said there were a few people ahead of me, but that they would call me when they were finished.  I needed to return past viii:00 p.m. or . . . actually, she didn't say what would happen.  Possibly they'd get rid of my stuff?  Anyway, I remembered around vi:30 p.m. and headed back.  They still weren't done, so I looked effectually for a scrap.  The store is huge and I noticed a lot of decent things on the racks, but as well many that were very faded or pilly–those were mostly character items like superheroes, Disney, etc.  Seeing and then many things in extremely used status, I figured they would certainly accept all my stuff.  Later all, I had already sorted out annihilation that looked faded, lightly stained, etc.  Well, here'southward what they were willing to purchase for $6.55.

I went into Kid to Kid a little wiser, simply their system is different.  You take a couple options:

• Sign a grade saying that you will take whatsoever they will pay you and then leave.  They call y'all when they are done sorting and have you lot come pick up the discards.  They will already take put the good stuff in inventory.  You can have the cash or get a 20% increase if you take payment in the form of a store credit that never expires.
• If you aren't sure you lot are willing to part with things for whatsoever cost they requite you lot, they have you wait in the store until they become to your stuff and sort information technology.  You sign a form that says they tin can donate it if you aren't at the counter within 5 minutes of them calling for you lot.

eBay

Final, but non least, in that location's eBay.  I posted the total lot with a starting price of $nine.50 and a Buy It Now choice of $40.  I wanted it to have the best odds of selling for the purposes of this enquiry, and so I offered gratis aircraft.  It sold for $30.  Hither is the listing I created.

Verdict

To earn the most money from selling kids wearing apparel, choose 1 of the following options:

• List on a local online garage sale or Craigslist. Exist prepared to oft bump your posts, field phone calls, and reply to texts/private messages
• Go to Once Upon a Child first, and so Kid to Kid, then sell the remaining items on eBay.

To gosomething for your clothes while maximizing your time and immigration your house of clutter, go straight to Child to Child, which will take more than of your stuff than Once Upon a Child.  Donate the residual.

If it seems similar this was a lot of work for $9, you're right.  I used this equally an experiment to assistance me figure out what to do with the rest of my bins full of clothes.  I won't do this every time; I did it for you!
